AINT IT COOL NEWS

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

Sometimes we get months and months of pre-release hype before a film comes out, so much so that by the time we're actually sitting in the theater to watch and evaluate it, we know just about every detail of what we're seeing. Blah! This is not the case with the new horror film PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. There was one screening in L.A. quite a while ago, the reaction was phenomenal, and then radio silence for months. Now we're just starting to hear about how fucking terrified folks were at the Toronto midnight showing and at a secret screening at Telluride. And suddenly the film is opening in select cities on September 25. Paramount has made it very clear that the film will go wider if crowds respond, so horror fans need to walk away from shit like FINAL DESTINATION, SORORITY ROW, and HALLOWEEN 2, and check this baby out.

I'll be seeing it next week at my first day at Fantastic Fest, and Chicago readers should pay close attention to the site tomorrow for details on something we're doing here with the film next week. All I can say is I'm double-bagging my diapers for this movie.

I love THIS TRAILER. I love that it isn't just about summarizing the plot; it's about the reaction. It makes it perfectly clear that this is not a film to be seen alone; this isn't a film about excessive gore or cheap scares; there are no big stars or monumental effects budgets at work here; this is a film that wants to get inside your head and make you scared to walk home at night. Think BLAIR WITCH before you knew it was fake. We see a lot of horror hype all over the internet, and usually it turns out to be bullshit. This one strikes me as the real deal. See for yourself.
